Performance Engineering in Practice: Benchmarks and other concepts

Goals

Get to know benchmark methods in general and a particular topic in depth. Additionally, you will enhance your skills to work in a small group, do bibliography research, evaluate technical articles, elaborate a final document, do a peer review and perform a final oral presentation.

Assignment's Formal Requirements

The work modality will vary, with groups of either 2 or 3 people.

Document Format

The seminar will only accept submissions in Adobe PDF format. More detailed information will be provided at the Kickoff meeting. We require that they conform to the IEEE conference paper as given in this LaTeX template. We have included a template file (sem_template.tex) as a starting point for the document, and a bibliography file (sem_template.bib) for the bibliographic entries. See sample manuscript as a visual aid for formatting and styles. Note that the use of LaTeX for typesetting and BibTex for bibliography management is enforced.

The length of the manuscript will be precised by the corresponding supervisor. It should be, however, between 10 and 12 pages per paper, including text, figures and references.

Review Process

After submitting the documents, each group will receive around 2~3 other students' documents to perform a peer review. Reviews should include:

  • a summary of the reviewed paper
  • comments for the authors
  • a list of positive and negative aspects.

Reviews must contain constructive critiques.

Evaluation

For the final grades we will consider: your effort on bibliography research, elaboration of the preliminary and final document, team cooperation, quality of your reviews and your oral presentation.
